Anna Arignar National Zoo
Labor Day was a holiday for us, although not for those around us. We took advantage of the day and went to the zoo, which we've heard is very crowded on weekends. It's an hour drive away, in Vandalur. We saw lots of birds, and some of the large mammals we'd come to see: white tigers, guar, bison, jaguars, hippos, giraffes, and elephants taking a bath.
Quite a mix of animals.
It's a large, quiet (when we were there), forested park. And it was a looooong walk. We saw that they had bicycles for rent, and mini-bus tours, on our way out.
Termite mound. Not an actual exhibit, but worth a pic to us.
There wasn't much about the zoo in any of our guide books, or even online. Probably because when it was new, it was great, but it now has a general air of neglect - rusty cages, broken enclosures left to the forest, dirt and trash all around, some very smelly areas. There's still potential there, tho.
